Meet the Buda Team Behind Mainspring Garage Door Co.
Our Buda crew is the same group you’ll see at the H-E-B on Main Street or grabbing breakfast at Garcias. We’re not a call-center operation sending whoever’s available. These are the people who answer when you call (737) 510-7891, show up at your door in a Mainspring truck, and put their name on the work. Every one of them trained under our K.E.Y.S. code: Krafted right, Every time, Your home first, Standing behind it.
Our People
Carl Dutton, Owner
I started this company in 1984, back when Buda was barely a dot on the map south of Austin. Named it Mainspring because that single spring carries the entire weight of a door, and that’s how we approach the work: one critical part done right, or the whole thing fails. I still answer the phone some nights, still drive out when a torsion spring snaps at 10 p.m. in a Buda neighborhood and someone’s trapped in their garage. After 42 years, I’ve seen every brand, every botched DIY job, every “it’ll hold” shortcut that didn’t. My rule hasn’t changed: flat price before we start, done right before we leave, and we come back free if it’s not. No paperwork, no arguing. That’s written on every invoice.
Marcus T., Lead Technician
Marcus has been with us 14 years and handles the jobs that make other techs pause: double-spring commercial setups, custom wood doors that weigh 400 pounds, and the occasional “my neighbor said he could fix it” disaster. He’s factory-certified on LiftMaster and Genie openers, but his real specialty is diagnosing what actually failed versus what looks like it failed. He lives in Kyle with his wife and two dogs, and he’ll tell you straight if a door is worth repairing or if you’re throwing money at a 25-year-old panel that’s rusted through. Customers in the Elm Grove area request him by name.
Dolores R., Senior Installer
Dolores came to us from a commercial door outfit in San Marcos eight years ago, and she brought a rigor we needed. She measures twice, cuts once, and has zero patience for doors that don’t hang level. Her Clopay and Amarr installs are clean enough that homeowners in the Meadows at Buda have called back just to say they noticed the detail work on the weather stripping. She trains our apprentices on how to set a door so it runs quiet, not just “runs.” Off the clock, she restores vintage motorcycles, which she says taught her more about torque and balance than any certification course.
James K., Service Coordinator
James is the voice you hear when you call (737) 510-7891 at 2 a.m. because your spring snapped and your car is trapped. He’s been with Mainspring six years, knows which tech carries which parts, and can tell you whether your described “loud bang” was a spring, a cable, or a trolley that jumped the rail. He grew up in Buda, graduated from Jack C. Hays High School, and still lives near Bradfield Village. That local knowledge matters when he’s routing trucks around I-35 construction or knowing which neighborhoods have HOA restrictions on door styles. He tracks every job to completion and follows up the next day.
Elena V., Apprentice Technician
Elena joined us last year after completing her technical training at Austin Community College. She’s working her way through our journeyman program under Marcus and Dolores, and she’s already handled solo spring replacements on standard steel doors in the Sunfield community. Her focus is opener diagnostics, and she’s become our go-to for the newer smart-home integrated systems that other shops won’t touch. She asks more questions than most veterans, which is exactly what we want. Grew up in a family that fixed everything themselves, so she already knew not to trust a door that “mostly” closes.
One Standard, Every Job
Every technician on this page arrives in a Mainspring truck stocked with springs, cables, rollers, and openers from the brands we service: LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton, Craftsman, and Raynor. Most repairs finish in one visit because we’re not ordering parts after we see the problem. The price we state before starting is the price on the invoice. No surprises on the bill.
The 90-Day Done Right Promise applies to every job, every technician, every time. If it’s not right, we make it right. In writing. No dispute, no runaround. Background-checked, uniformed, trained under K.E.Y.S. values. That’s the standard whether we’re in Buda, Kyle, or anywhere else we serve in the area.
Call (737) 510-7891 any time. A live person answers, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
